Types of Pergolas
4K PERGOLA
Pros
ATTACHED PERGOLA
An attached pergola is affixed to the exterior of a home to provide a shaded area with an open lattice or crossbeam roof. It serves as an inviting space for relaxation, outdoor dining, or as a support for climbing plants and vines, adding aesthetic charm and functionality to the property.
Pros
- 4-12 degrees cooler inside the house and outside
- Less posts
- No painting ever
- NO termites
- Rinse off to clean
- 3 or 4” insulated panel with closed panel
Cons
- Has limits of protection and width and always more posts
- Will need to repaint wood every few years
- Wood pergolas will eventually get termites
- Wood –can’t really clean it to make it look new.
- Wood does not deflect heat.
FREE-STANDING PERGOLAS
A free-standing pergola is a self-supporting outdoor structure, typically composed of vertical pillars or posts that hold up an open lattice or crossbeam roof. It is designed to stand independently in a yard or garden, offering a shaded and aesthetically pleasing space for various outdoor activities and landscaping enhancements.
Pros
- EX large outdoor living room feel
Cons
- 4 posts or more
GABLE PERGOLA
The gable pergola has a distinctive triangular roof with two sloping sides meeting at a central ridge. A gable design not only adds architectural interest but also provides efficient rainwater runoff and ample shade, making it a popular choice for outdoor spaces.
Pros
- Pitched roof for extra light and design
Cons
- If not free-standing will need gutters
LATTICE PERGOLA
A lattice pergola is characterized by an open-roof design with a framework of intersecting wooden or metal slats, creating a grid-like pattern that provides partial shade and allows filtered sunlight to pass through. This type of pergola offers a balance between sunlight and shade, making it an ideal choice for those seeking dappled lighting and a touch of outdoor elegance.
Pros
- Allows light to come through
- Fantastic look!
- We can get between 50-78% shade cover depending on the spacing of tubes.
Cons
- When it rains, water will come through
Other Types of Pergolas
Flat-Top Pergola or otherwise called Closed Roof Patio Cover or Pergola:
The flat roof designs all have gutters to shed water away from the house and into the yard drainage system. the flat roof design offers less natural shade compared to other pergola styles with full roofing, potentially limiting sun damage to furniture and skin and makes it more comfortable during hot and sunny days.
